Life Insurance
Life insurance provides financial support in the event of your passing, based on the risk assessment conducted by the provider. We will assess your situation and determine the appropriate insurance coverage for you and your family.
Several important factors are considered when evaluating high BMI life insurance policies:
Overall Health:
- Height, weight and waist measurement/dress size
- Smoking status
- Alcohol consumption
- Medical history
- Medication regularly taken
- Surgery / treatments or if you’re currently waiting for surgery
- Any other medical conditions
Medical Conditions:
- Do you have type 2 diabetes?
- Do you have high cholesterol?
- Do you have high blood pressure?
Life Insurance:
- How much cover do you want to take out?
- How much is left to pay on your mortgage?
- How much is left to pay on any outstanding debts?
- Do you know the type of policy you’re looking for?
The assessment of your application will be based on your health and lifestyle in order to customize the premium for you. Our experienced advisers can guide you to the insurers with the best rates based on your situation to find the right policy.
It is recognized that personal circumstances vary for each individual. Life insurance policies vary based on individual needs. Individuals can still qualify for life insurance even if their weight exceeds their “ideal” BMI. Life insurance is available at standard rates if BMI levels fall within the specified range and there are no additional health concerns.
Applications for life insurance may differ significantly when your BMI is categorized as more severe. Decisions about treatment can vary between providers, especially if you have other health issues to consider. We will analyze the various premiums and determine the most suitable option for you.
It should be noted that if your BMI indicates obesity but you are in good health, we will factor this in. Individuals who are especially tall or muscular, like bodybuilders or rugby players, may face rejection in other places. This information will be considered when searching for a life insurance policy that meets your satisfaction.
Typically, insurers will consider a BMI of up to 40 for term life insurance, which provides coverage for a specific time frame. Different insurers may set varying BMI thresholds based on the risk level they are willing to take on.
Critical Illness
Individuals within a specific BMI range can still qualify for critical illness cover policy, even if they are overweight. Typically, insurers will provide critical illness cover to individuals with a BMI of under 40 without any problems.
When applying for critical illness cover, certain factors should be taken into account:
- Your annual mortgage or rent payments
- Your annual cost of living
- Your annual income (after tax)
- How much you pay on bills per month
- Any other costs across the year including medical bills
Income Protection
Exclusions refer to conditions or events not covered by your income protection/critical illness or life insurance policy.
One scenario: Having a high BMI and then experiencing weight-related issues such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease could lead to exemptions from your insurer regarding those particular conditions.
If you’re unable to work due to that condition, you won’t be eligible for any benefits from your income protection policy.
Alternatively, your insurer might present you with a policy featuring increased premiums, decreased benefits, or an extended waiting time before you are eligible to make a claim.
We understand that you may not be familiar with how income protection works or the terms and conditions of your policy. We will discuss everything in detail so you can feel confident about having a plan that will deliver when needed.
