Life Insurance
The level of risk in rock climbing varies significantly when it comes to insurance coverage. Insurers will ask for information about your climbs before offering life insurance.
During your conversation with our advisers, they will pose the following questions:
- How frequently do you climb?
- What is the highest point that you reach?
- What is the difficulty level of the climbs you are doing?
- Are you climbing rocks in the UK or internationally?
- Are you participating in any contests?
Life insurance for rock climbers is typically available at regular rates. Life insurance applications for rock climbing may inquire about whether you climb solo, in a group, your qualifications, and whether you engage in free climbing.
These questions may not be visible in the beginning of the life insurance application, however, our advisers gather all the necessary information upfront to expedite the process of finding the best insurer for you.
If your climbs are limited to the UK, life insurance is likely to be offered by some companies at standard terms, as insurers can confidently assume that the climbs will not be excessively high.
Life insurance providers typically offer standard rates for individuals who solely engage in indoor rock climbing on artificial walls.
Critical Illness
Critical illness insurance for rock climbers is typically available at standard terms.
Your climbs should typically be at a lower grade than severe and not involve professional competitions. In situations where your climbs are deemed riskier, your policy premiums might rise to compensate for the increased risk associated with your hobby. You might receive insurance with a regular rate, but mountaineering/rock climbing will not be covered under critical illness insurance.
For climbing locations exclusively in the UK, you may find it easier to get standard insurance terms from providers as they understand that UK climbs are generally moderate.
Income Protection
Income protection for rock climbers may or may not be available at normal terms, depending on the insurer you choose to apply to.
Income protection is easily obtainable, whether indoors or outdoors.
The insurer needs information on any injuries you’ve sustained from rock climbing before providing terms. Individuals who have experienced broken bones, torn ligaments, or similar injuries recently may have exclusions placed by the insurer for claims related to those specific areas of the body.
