Life Insurance
Life insurance for commercial divers may be approved by insurance providers under standard terms.
In order to determine the most suitable insurance options for you, we will need to ask you a few questions.
- What portion of your work week is dedicated to diving?
- What is the maximum depth you will reach?
- Is mixed air used here?
- Do you prefer diving alone or with others?
- Are explosive materials required?
- Are you diving in the UK or overseas?
The insurer will need to know if you are utilizing any experimental equipment in your diving activities. If there are any risky aspects of your job, insurers may offer life insurance with adjusted terms (premium increase).

Critical Illness
Critical illness insurance for commercial divers may vary in availability and terms based on diving location and activities performed.
It should be noted that critical illness cover for divers often includes an occupational exclusion regarding policy claims. In the event of a critical illness from job-related diving activities, you won’t be able to claim on the policy.
In case you are diagnosed with one of the conditions listed on the policy and it occurs outside of your occupational duties, you should be able to successfully claim benefits.
The critical illness application requires information on any hazardous activities you participate in.
Income Protection
Income protection for commercial divers should be arranged with a specialized insurance provider. The specialist insurer can customize an income protection policy based on your specific circumstances.
Individuals working in hazardous occupations are more likely to have higher monthly premiums for income protection compared to those in less hazardous jobs.
Consider getting accident, sickness, and unemployment cover as another option. This policy offers income replacement for 12-24 months in case you can’t work due to disability, long-term injury, or redundancy.
It is important to thoroughly review the policy documentation to confirm your eligibility based on your geographical location and duration outside the UK.
