Life Insurance
Free diving requires skill and can be an exciting experience. You could be freediving for a few minutes or for a much longer period.
There are specific details about your free-diving that insurers will need when you apply for life insurance.
When speaking to our advisers, we will inquire:
- What frequency do you go free diving?
- What is the deepest you dive?
- Do you typically hang out alone or with others?
- Where are you practicing freediving?
- Are you involved in competitions?
Your life insurance application could be approved under standard conditions if you avoid diving frequently and going to great depths in the water.
Some insurers may raise your life insurance premiums if you engage in activities like diving into deep waters, exploring shipwrecks, or participating in competitions.
Critical Illness
Critical illness cover may be offered to free divers by certain insurers.
Your critical illness cover might have an exclusion for claims related to diving. It is possible that a claim will not be paid out in the event of experiencing a heart attack or stroke while free-diving. The level of exclusion will vary based on the extent of your free diving and the insurance provider you choose.
Income Protection
During an income insurance application, sports such as free diving are frequently asked about by the insurer. The insurer will need to evaluate if your free-diving increases the risk of filing a claim on the policy.
It is likely that you will be inquired about any absences from work due to health issues or injuries you may have experienced in recent years.
It is important to ensure your income protection is placed with an insurer that is willing to accept diving as a covered risk. Some insurers may not provide income protection to you.
