Life Insurance
Participating in a single skydive probably won’t affect your life insurance application, but it’s recommended to verify. Insurers vary in their question sets, so it’s crucial to find the one that suits you best.
Our advisers will help you find the best insurer by asking:
- How many skydives do you typically do annually?
- Is this something you do for fun or as part of your job?
- Are you planning to skydiving in the UK or overseas?
- Are you involved in competitions?
Despite the safety measures in place, insurers view skydiving as a riskier sport compared to many others.
Skydivers’ life insurance applications may be eligible for acceptance under standard conditions. Individuals who jump less than 30 times a year may find good life insurance options available from several insurers. Exceeding this limit could result in higher insurance premiums from some companies.
Certain insurance options do not inquire about skydiving on the life insurance application. This route could work well if you’re into frequent skydiving.
Critical Illness
Critical illness insurance for skydivers is typically evaluated similarly to life insurance. The insurer will need to know your diving frequency, as it is a crucial piece of information.
It is acknowledged that the number of dives completed can vary annually and transparency regarding past and future dive plans is essential.
For individuals who plan on diving less than 30 times a year, certain insurers may be able to provide critical illness cover at a competitive rate.
If a skydiver’s critical illness insurance application mentions more than 50 jumps per year, some insurers may raise the policy premiums. The essential point is that it’s a few, not all insurers.
Critical illness cover typically provides insurance for the diagnosis of around 60 different conditions. One of these is known as Total Permanent Disability (TPD). Your critical illness cover may come with an exclusion for claims related to skydiving on this TPD.
While we aim to prevent exclusions, if you happen to come across one, remember it’s just one condition among the many others you are protected against.
Income Protection
Income protection for skydivers can be obtained through certain insurers under regular conditions. When you go to get insurance, they’ll ask about your jumping frequency and whether it’s related to your job, a hobby, or just a one-time thing.
Income protection applications must include information about any recent injuries you have experienced. Medical conditions such as back pain, torn ligament, or shoulder strain may result in exemptions on income protection policies.
