Income Protection

Being informed of a cancer diagnosis is a significant moment that underscores the delicate nature of life, regardless of the severity of the prognosis. Our role is to listen to you, understand your story, and select an insurer who will be supportive of your non-Hodgkin Lymphoma history.

Information we need to be aware of:

  • When were you diagnosed with non-Hodgkin Lymphoma?
  • What was the staging of your cancer?
  • What was the grading of your cancer?
  • Did you have chemotherapy?
  • Did you have radiotherapy?
  • Have you had a stem cell or bone marrow transplant?
  • When were you given the all clear from cancer?

Life insurance for individuals who have had non-Hodgkin lymphoma may be an option under standard terms, typically after a specific period following the last treatment, which is usually several years. Information regarding the treatment methods for non-Hodgkin lymphoma and the staging/grading of the tumor will be required by the insurer to evaluate your Life Insurance application. The insurer requires a doctor’s report to assess the severity of your non-Hodgkin lymphoma, the timing of your last treatment, and any potential lasting complications.

Life Insurance may be offered at non-standard rates if your cancer and/or treatment recently concluded, or if the tumor’s staging and grading were severe. When Life Insurance is available with non-standard terms, it will result in higher premiums for individuals with a history of non-Hodgkin lymphoma compared to those without. If this happens, the insurer will probably lower the increased premium once more time has passed since you had cancer.

Critical Illness

After a certain number of years since your last treatment for non-Hodgkin lymphoma, Critical Illness Cover may be an option with certain insurers. The insurer requires a report from your GP to assess the complete details of your condition, including tumor staging/grading, treatments received, any lasting complications, and the time elapsed since you were declared free of illness. A cancer exclusion will likely be included in your policy, which falls under special (non-standard) terms. The Critical Illness policy also covers other serious conditions such as heart attack, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, and multiple sclerosis, despite not being ideal.

Individuals with high-grade/stage non-Hodgkin lymphoma may face limitations in obtaining Critical Illness Cover from standard insurers. Specialist insurers can assist you in arranging Critical Illness insurance, if needed.

Income Protection

If you’ve had non-Hodgkin lymphoma and are applying for Income Protection, make sure to provide details on cancer staging, grading, treatments received, and the timing of your last treatment. If the lymphoma is at a low stage and a considerable amount of time has elapsed, you might qualify for Income Protection at regular rates. In situations where a patient has advanced lymphoma or has recently completed treatment, the insurance policy may be approved with extra charges or exclusions related to cancer.

Certain insurers may reject your Income Protection application because of your history of cancer. In situations like this, there are certain specialized policies that could be an option, but the eligibility requirements are stringent and not suitable for everyone.
